From pentest report to actually fixed — closing a findings backlog.
A findings report is the start, not the finish. How to triage, prioritise, and actually close a backlog of vulnerabilities without stalling the roadmap.
By Sheer Safe
A pentest report tells you what’s wrong. It doesn’t make you safer — closing the findings does. Yet backlogs of “known issues” pile up for months because remediation competes with the product roadmap and nobody owns the list.
Triage before you fix
Not every finding deserves equal urgency. Rank by real-world exploitability and business impact, not just the scanner’s severity label. A “medium” that exposes customer data usually beats a “high” buried behind three other controls.
Make fixing routine
Assign owners, set target dates, and re-test to confirm each issue is genuinely closed — with evidence. Fold recurring classes of bug into your pipeline so they never come back. The goal isn’t a clean report; it’s a backlog that keeps shrinking.
